GD Somani Memorial School was established in 1975 by the well known industrialists and philanthropists of the Somani Group – the late B. D. Somani and G. D. Somani. The school is situated in the posh locality of Cuffe Parade. Today, G. D. Somani is a co-educational day school with 1400 students and offers the ICSE and ISC system of education. It offers classes from grade 1 to 12.

About Currriculum :

The school offers classes from grades 1-12. It follows the curriculum for

  • Grades 1-8: The curriculum prescribed by the Inter-State Board for Anglo Indian Education
  • Grade 9-10: The Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE). Elective subjects are Computer application, Commercial application, and Physical education.
  • Grades 11-12: Indian School Certificate (ISC) for the Commerce stream with a special Entrepreneurship module
    • Compulsory subjects: English, Commerce, Economics, and Accounts
    • Electives: Maths, Computer Science or Business Studies

Languages taught:  English, Hindi

The school year, which begins in April, and ends in March comprises three terms.

Assessment and Reporting:

Internal and external assessing takes place. External assessments account for 80% of the total grade and internal assessments account for 20% of the total grade.

For elective subjects, external assessments account for 50% of the total grade and internal assessments account for 50% of the total grade.

Teaching Methodology:

We equip our teachers with simple, yet innovative learning strategies that help them instil a love for learning in every student. Personality development of the students, enhancing their talents and catering to their mental and spiritual upliftment; perfecting the qualities that will enable them to become good citizens is a big part of how we teach. The school endeavours to inculcate the right values in students and help them to build their character to face the challenges of the future.

Classrooms:
  • Teacher-student ratio of 1:15 in both primary and secondary classrooms.
  • Classrooms are large, airy, clean and stocked with learning materials including visual aids.

Admission Process:

Students seeking admission to GD Somani Memorial School need to appear for an entrance test, based on which they are selected for admission and the principal’s decision is final. The student should present leaving certificate if he/she belongs to a recognized school. The fee paid once is not refundable or transferable.
