All assessment at the school, from grade 6 through grade 12, is based on a criterion-referenced system. For quarter reports, the school uses an A to F system for academic performance and 1 to 4 for effort grades. The academic grades of A, B, C, D, and F represent the core values expressed as descriptors beside each grade. Students who demonstrate the highest levels of consistent competencies will achieve the + (plus) version of the grade in the Semester reports. Students who exhibit the competencies of the grade but to a less consistent level will be rewarded the - (minus) version of the grade. Semester report cards are issued for academic and effort grades. For university applications, we issue a transcript that reports the final grade in each subject. We do not rank our students.
At B.D. Somani, we believe that teaching is a process that should encourage children to learn how to think. Even very young children learn to communicate effectively, ask searching questions, solve problems competently, think critically and creatively, and act responsibly.
Classrooms are air-conditioned with specialist rooms for art, music and theatre, IT and state-of-the-art labs for the sciences and design and innovation. Teacher student ratio is 1:6.
