In a very Indian context, a foreign language is in itself a very tricky proposition. After learning the mother tongue, Hindi and English, introducing a child to another language though looks good, is probably a burden. While the understanding of a non-Indian culture is welcome and definitely needs to happen, should it happen through the learning of a new language. or should there be better avenues of learning then from other subjects (possibly the choice of a country of two as a subject wherein a bit of history, geography, culture etc are covered). Learning a new language and the grammar and pronunciation and intrecasies is one level of complexity which might be possibly avoided by a general awareness of the country of one's choice.

@Ravindra: CLIC's Spanish Programs for children are aimed at children aged 8.5 years to 13 years. Since all teachers of CLIC are native Spanish teachers, children need to be atleast 8.5 years as at this age they are matured enough to comprehend a native Spanish teacher. Children younger than 8 years are still learning their mother tongue or have just started to learn English. Hence, their conversation and comprehension skills in English are still developing. It is advisable to wait until a child turns 8 years old so that he/she can learn a foreign language holistically covering all the aspects of language learning i.e reading, writing, listening and speaking.

@Arun Narayan, We live in a highly globalized and inter-connected world. Most of the parents want children to have a global exposure and be ready for an international future. As a result of this, more and more schools are introducing foreign languages as a part of their mainstream curriculum. Language is not only a tool for communication but also a medium to widen the perspective of the world and become more tolerant, empathetic and understanding of different cultures. A holistically designed foreign language course not only covers grammar but also covers culture, customs and geography. As far as grammar and pronunciation are concerned, as Indians we are already exposed to diverse language and cultures. So imbibing a new language is not difficult. On the contrary, our exposure to different languages makes it easier to learn any language. As far as burden of learning a new language is concerned, it is a burden only if there is a lack of motivation. Any discipline whether it is art, music, sports or coding requires interest, motivation and discipline. Even math and science can be a burden if a child lacks interest and motivation towards these subjects.

We are living in a world where technology is easily outpacing us and the need of many of these. Transactions will be realtime and the need to learn a new language to interact with people in different continent will be a thing of the past. High up in my check list is the ability to build critical thinking and understand human machine interaction. But then, it's just my view...

You are right that in the today's world, skill scenario is highly uncertain. In a span of 5 years, some jobs may become obsolete and some new opportunities will be created. Critical thinking is one such skill that will be very useful for our kids in future. And learning new language (along with culture) is one such useful tool to acquire that skill.
